We are enjoying beautiful weather as we cruise towards St. Thomas.
I had a questions from a follower who asked if the TS Kennedy had an "Assistant Captain". He explained that since his school had an Assistant Principal to help out the Principal, it only seemed fair that I have an "Assistant Captain" to help me with my duties.
Although there is not a position called "Assistant Captain", I do have a dedicated crew member who is next in command aboard the ship. Her name is Melissa Turner and her position is First Mate. One of her main duties is coordinating the deck maintenance program that all of the cadets participate in during Sea Term. As you know, the cadets and crew are constantly working to keep the TS Kennedy in the best shape possible. Like me, First Mate Turner is a graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. She is a hard worker who is well-liked by both the cadets and her fellow crew members.
Speaking of MMA alumni, often the harbor pilot that joins the ship and guides our arrival into St. Thomas is a graduate of the academy. Our cadets always enjoy meeting alumni with successful careers in their field. Having the opportunity to work side-by-side with an MMA grad on the Bridge is quite a treat for our Marine Transportation majors.
I am off to a meeting.
Thank you for being a part of Sea Term 2018!
