PHOTO OF THE DAY
Barbados Snorkeling Adventure
One of the most attractive aspects of Barbados has to be the water and marine life around it. I was able to experience this today with some cadets when we signed up for the Barbados Snorkeling Adventure. This was a 2-hour trip that had two snorkel spots, a known turtle location and a shipwreck site.
When we first got to Pirate’s Cove, we were divided into two groups because our group was too large to be on one trip. I was in the second trip which meant that I was stuck on a beautiful beach on a sunny day but only until 1330. What a shame!
While I waited, I ordered a “pirate’s burger” for lunch. This was a cheeseburger with grilled pineapple and BBQ sauce on it. It was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Eventually it came time to board our boat called “Tranquility” and head for the turtles. After waiting for a while, I wanted to see some turtles, so I jumped right in with my snorkel gear in hand. We saw two small turtles and they were simply resting on the sea floor without acknowledging the people staring at them.
We headed to the shipwreck sight but before we got into the water, we took turns on the water slide. Everyone was throwing Go-Pros back and forth to each other to make sure they got the perfect shot. Negus, our Captain, explained that this ship had sunk in 2008 and was 125 feet long. When we got in the water, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The ship had turned into a reef that was booming with marine life. We were literally swimming through schools of fish. The best way to describe it, the scene from Finding Nemo when the school of fish were talking to Dory and Marlin. Being in a major that studies marine life, this snorkeling trip has to be a highlight of Sea Term for me.
Super Bowl Sunday!
The day has arrived and there is excitement aboard the TSK! Cadets are sporting their Patriots gear and hyping each other up. Most cadets that I talked to decided to find a place to eat and watch the game there. But because it’s Sunday, we have shortened liberty due to taking off tomorrow. 4/C must be back at 2200, 3/C have until 2300, 1/C and rates have until 0100. This means that most cadets will not be able to watch the whole game. The mess deck will be showing the game and Chartwells has decided to prepare some game time snacks. Fingers crossed for a 6th ring! Go Pats!
That slide looks like fun! Did you cook up those fish? Were they delicious??
I want to Thank You for a job well do so far But could you continue trying to get pictures of all the cadets, especially 1C Marine engine Cardoso! Hope all are well and Good luck
