Today we traveled around EARTH University looking at the various ways they create energy to power the campus and their waste management methods. The main sources of energy come from their biodigestors, which are located on the dairy farm and main campus, and solar panels, which are on the all the houses and majority of buildings. Then, we got to see and, unfortunately, smell their composting sites. They use the compost for their three massive banana plantations.
The meals have been very similar every day we have been here. The day starts with rice and beans with fruit. Lunch consists of rice and beans with some sort of protein mixed in and then fruit. Last night we got pasta with red sauce to go along with our rice and beans.
We also had a class with Professor Stephens that covered an Introduction to Energy. She gave us the basic knowledge we need to have to start the semester. Also we heard about our rates’ senior projects that sparked good conversation among everyone about efficiency and sustainability.
